Our work

Case studies

What we found on two London roofs, and what our clients did with the report.

Two real surveys from our work in London. We’ve kept to the facts and left out anything that would identify the clients.

Victorian terrace, Islington: pre-purchase roof survey

The problem

A buyer was purchasing a Victorian terraced house in Islington and wanted to know the condition of the roof before committing.

What we did

We carried out a pre-purchase roof survey, inspecting the roof coverings, chimney, flashings and gutters, and used thermal imaging as part of the survey.

What we found

  • Slipped slates
  • Problems with the chimney flashings
  • Blocked gutters

In total, about £8,500 of repairs were identified.

The outcome

The buyer used the report to negotiate the cost of the repairs with the seller.

Five-storey office building, Camden: flat roof survey

The problem

The owner of a five-storey office building in Camden needed to know the condition of its flat roof.

What we did

We carried out a flat roof survey of the roof membrane, drainage and roof surface.

What we found

  • Failure of the roof membrane
  • Drainage problems
  • Deflection in the roof

The outcome

The survey saved the client about £15,000.

What every survey has in common

Each survey ends with a written report with photographs and recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. Results depend on each roof; we can’t promise what a report will find or what a seller will agree to. See what our survey covers and our prices.
