Independent Roof Survey · London and the South East
Storm damage roof report
An independent record of storm damage to your roof, with photographs, for you to give to your insurer.
- Slates and tiles blown off or lifted
- Ridge tiles loosened or missing
- Damaged chimney pots and stacks
What our storm damage roof report involves
After a storm, insurers want to know what has been damaged and whether the storm caused it. Our storm damage roof report records the damage we can see, with photographs, and gives our view of the likely cause, including where wear and tear or older defects may have played a part. You can give the report to your insurer with your claim. We are not loss adjusters and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid: insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. What the report gives you is a clear, independent record of the roof’s condition.
We survey roofs across London and the South East, with more than 5,000 surveys completed and over 20 years’ experience. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

How it works
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve noticed.
- We agree a date as soon as we can; surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- We inspect the roof from safe positions, the loft and by drone where applicable.
- We photograph the damage and look for signs of storm damage as well as older wear.
- Your report records what is damaged, the photographs and the likely cause.
What insurers look at
The Financial Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions around the date, whether the damage is consistent with a storm and whether the storm was the main cause. Wear and tear is usually excluded, which is why a report that separates the two is useful.
After a storm
Stay off the roof and keep clear of anything that looks loose. Take photographs from the ground and inside, note the date and tell your insurer. If water is coming in, protect what you can inside.

Why it’s worth doing now
After a storm, insurers want evidence of what was damaged and why. Without it, it can be hard to show the difference between storm damage and wear and tear. An independent report made soon after the storm gives you a clear record while the damage is fresh.
What our survey covers and doesn’t
We inspect what can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from inside the roof space where there is safe access, from the roof where it is safe, and by drone where applicable. Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey, not a structural engineer’s report and not an asbestos survey, and we can’t see under coverings or inside walls without opening them up. Where a roof may contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before it is disturbed.
What affects the price
- The size and height of the roof
- How many roofs there are, including extensions, dormers and garages
- How complex the roof is: valleys, parapets, chimneys and different levels
- Access to the roof space and the roof
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Whether drone inspection or thermal imaging is needed
- For commercial roofs and blocks, the size of the roof and the number of buildings
What to check before booking a roof surveyor
- What the report includes, and when you’ll get it
- Whether photographs are included
- How the roof will be inspected: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- For drone work, a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What the survey doesn’t cover
- The price, including VAT
After the survey
Send the report to your insurer with your claim and keep a copy. Keep receipts for any emergency work, and take photographs of anything that changes before the repairs are done.
Storm damage roof report: common questions
Will your report mean my claim is paid?
No one can promise that. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We are roof surveyors. We record the condition of the roof and the damage we find; the insurer and any loss adjuster make the decision on the claim.
What counts as a storm?
It varies by policy. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but check your own policy wording.
Should I wait for the insurer before booking?
Tell your insurer first and check what they need. Many owners book a report so they have their own record of the damage.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our roof survey is a specialist inspection of the roof only. It isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 home survey of the whole building, and it isn’t a structural engineer’s report. Many buyers book it alongside a RICS survey when the roof needs a closer look.
Are you insured?
Yes. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
When do you carry out surveys?
Surveys are carried out on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday 7:30am–9:30pm, Saturday 7:30am–7pm and Sunday 9am–5pm.
