Independent storm damage roof reports in Slough

Storm damage roof report in Slough: what you get

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We are not loss adjusters and cannot tell you if your claim will succeed. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. We survey flat roofs, gutters and fascias and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about ridge tiles that have come loose and damaged flat roof membrane.

Storms tend to hit many roofs in an area at once. A written record with photos helps you explain what’s happened, whether to an insurer, a landlord or a roofer. We report what we find; we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. Wear and tear is usually excluded, so it helps to know what is old and what is new.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Why get it checked now?

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it’s better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so you know what the roof shows. For a shop, office or block in Slough, a roof leak can mean closed rooms, damaged stock or unhappy residents. It is easier to plan work than to react to it.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before you book.

Why us?

  • Drones and thermal imaging where it applies
  • Insured for professional indemnity and public liability
  • Surveys seven days a week
  • An independent view of the roof

Tips that help

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:

  • Check your policy for how to report damage
  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Check how your policy defines a storm
  • Keep receipts for any emergency work

You will need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. The report gives them a clear list of the damage.

After a storm, look at the roof from the street or garden. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Do not go up a ladder to look.

Slough: your questions answered

How should I get ready for a visit in Slough?

Very little. Unlock side gates, keep pets in another room and dig out any invoices from past roof work, and the visit in Slough can get straight on.

Do you cover Slough?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Slough is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the property.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

How should I record storm damage myself?

Stay off the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Who handles emergency protection after a storm?

Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. We can record the damage in our report.

How long does the survey take?

Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. The written report follows by email.

For landlords and managing agents

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Slough. For a price for a let property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

High winds can loosen pots, cowls and aerials on stacks. The report notes any damage to the stack.

Ridge and hip tiles

Ridge tiles bedded in old mortar can loosen in high winds. We note whether the mortar looks recently broken or long worn.

What we cannot see

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • The outcome of a claim
  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
  • How your policy defines a storm

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Slate and tile slopes

How it works

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes an hour or two for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Where a building in Slough has a manager or access rules, those are sorted out before the day. For homes, clear the way to the loft hatch and let us know about any leaks you know of. The written report follows, with photos.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Storm damage roof reports in Slough: local notes

Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. Historic houses such as Windsor Castle, about 2.1 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Slough goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Michael and All Angels, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. Living close to Herschel Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Slough, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use.
