Need a roof survey in SL6?

Roof survey in SL6: how it works

The report is written for you, in plain language. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and where it is relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. We survey the roof space, chimney stacks and ridges, hips and valleys, and people most frequently book us about gutters that overflow in heavy rain and valley linings that have cracked or split.

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer.

  1. You tell us about the property and any concerns.
  2. We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
  3. We look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, inside and out.
  4. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with recommendations prioritised by urgency.

Local landmarks in Maidenhead

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Boyne Hill CofE Infant and Nursery School, Desborough College and Braywick Park and the streets around them. You’ll also find All Saints' Church (under half a mile south-west), Claires Court Schools (within half a mile north) and The Windsor Castle pub (less than half a mile north-west). The nearest railway station is Maidenhead station, roughly 0.5 miles south-east of the centre. A little further out are The Reitlinger Bequest Museum (1.2 miles east) and St Mark's Hospital (0.6 miles west). For a walk, there’s Weycock Hill and Taplow Lake.

Roof surveys across SL6: local notes

Across SL6, from Slough, Maidenhead and Boyn Hill outwards, roofs range from old slate and clay tile to modern concrete tiles and flat roofs. The usual weak points are fixings, flashings, chimneys and gutters.

Autumn and winter storms across the South East find any loose slate, tile or ridge. In SL6, as elsewhere, exposed details are where damage shows first.

Maidenhead: Trees in and around Braywick Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. If you live in an older home near All Saints' Church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

Landlords, agents and block managers in SL6

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

How the survey changes by roof type

Clay plain and peg tiles

Handmade and machine-made clay tiles are long-lasting. Slipped, cracked and missing tiles are recorded.

Lead flashings and valleys

Lead flashings seal chimneys, walls and abutments. Lifted, split or slipped lead is recorded, and for flashings replaced with mortar or bitumen.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
  • Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
  • A promise that the roof won’t leak in future

Tips that help

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Mention any damp patches when you book
  • Keep the report with your property records
  • Look for debris in the garden after high winds
  • Stay off ladders and the roof

If you need work done, the report gives roofers a clear brief. The photos show what we found and where, which makes quotes easier to compare.

After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Your questions about roof surveys in SL6

How quickly will I get the report?

Premium reports arrive the same day, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.

How do I book a survey in SL6?

Simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can usually go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

How long does the visit take?

Allow roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. We will confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.

Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?

We don’t give a number of years. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it is wearing, with recommendations ranked by urgency.

How much is a survey?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it’s agreed before booking.

Do you look in the loft space?

If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.
