How a roof survey works in HP10
Three packages cover most roofs: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The Basic Survey gives a visual inspection, photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies. Every package includes a written report. We survey flat roofs, clay and concrete tiles and the roof space, and people most frequently book us about loose chimney pots and cracked or blistered flat roof coverings.
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Homes and roofs across HP10
Owners across HP10, from High Wycombe, Flackwell Heath and Wooburn Green to the villages, book us to find out where their roof stands. Small faults, caught early, are far easier to deal with.
We survey roofs across London and the South East, and HP10 is part of that. London and South East England have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates.
Flackwell Heath: For an older house near a landmark such as Christ Church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Cliveden lies about 2.9 miles south, so building around Flackwell Heath goes back a long way. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs.
Why get it checked now?
Planned work is less stressful than an emergency. With a report, you can tackle the urgent jobs first and plan the rest, rather than waiting for something to fail.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
- Whether you get a written report with photos
Why roofs fail
Slates and tiles often outlast the fixings that hold them. ‘Nail fatigue’ is common on slate roofs: the nails rust and the slates slide. On tiled roofs, battens and pegs can rot.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
- Flashings that have come away from the wall
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
Different roofs, different checks
Lead flashings and valleys
Flashings and valleys are where many leaks start. That’s why we check them closely.
Chimney stacks
Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked. Leaning stacks and loose pots are recorded.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Landlords, agents and block managers in HP10
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.
Common questions in HP10
Do you carry out asbestos surveys?
No. Asbestos testing is not part of our service. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How do I arrange a roof survey in HP10?
Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
What insurance do you have?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?
Not as an exact number, because so much depends on the fixings, underlay and upkeep. Instead, we set out what’s sound, what’s wearing and what to do first.
Is HP10 in your area?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes HP10.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
