Our roof survey service in HP7
The report is written for you, in plain language. Each defect is described with photos and a recommendation, and we rank them by urgency where that helps. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where it applies and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. We survey the roof space, natural slate and lead flashings, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are lifted, split or missing lead flashings and ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs.
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there is safe access.
- We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across HP7
Across HP7, plenty of older houses still have chimney stacks, used or not, and their flashings and pointing need checking like any other part of the roof. Valleys, gutters and fixings follow close behind.
Our surveys reach from London out to Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, the Thames Valley, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, HP7 included. Visits run on weekdays and at weekends.
Coleshill: With Chenies Manor House about 4.6 miles north-east, the area around Coleshill has a long history. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs. Anyone responsible for a site like Coleshill Church of England Infant School will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.
Roof by roof
Flat roof coverings
Felt flat roofs frequently last around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We check its condition and the signs of age.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Clay tiles commonly last 50 years or more. Slipped, cracked and missing tiles are recorded.
What affects the cost of roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Height and safe access
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.
Getting in touch
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- The property’s address and postcode
- What’s prompted the survey
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
When you need someone else
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
For landlords and managing agents
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.
Checking the roof from the ground
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
HP7 questions
Do you cover HP7?
Yes, we do. HP7 is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when you book.
How much is a survey?
Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
Not as a figure. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it’s wearing, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, such as serious sagging, we’ll say so. We do not provide structural calculations.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
