Roof surveys in HP6

About roof surveys in HP6

People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have spotted a stain or a slipped slate, others want a check before selling or after years without one. Whatever the reason, the survey works the same way: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. Visits run on any day of the week, so it is easy to find a day that suits. We survey the roof space, lead flashings and chimney stacks, and people most frequently book us about ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs and loose ridge or hip tiles.

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, it typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.

  1. You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
  2. We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
  3. We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where safe.
  4. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with recommendations prioritised by urgency.

What you’ll pay

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Roof surveys across HP6: local notes

HP6 has everything from older homes with tall chimneys to modern estates. Sooner or later, every roof needs its gutters, flashings and coverings checked.

From inner London terraces to Kent oast houses, Sussex tile-hanging and Hampshire thatch, the South East has a huge mix of roofs. Roofs in HP6 are part of that picture.

Amersham: Take an older house close to St. Michael and All Angels: its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Chenies Manor House, about 3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Amersham. If you own one of the older houses, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up.

Can I check my roof myself?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Prices for roof surveys in HP6

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Which survey package you book
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

For a price for your roof in HP6, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What we need to know

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A roof that has had no attention for years can surprise you. A survey sets a baseline, which makes later changes easy to spot.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • Whether you get a written report with photos

Useful tips for HP6 property owners

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Keep the report with your property records
  • Let us know about past leaks
  • Stay off ladders and the roof
  • Find records of any re-roofing or repairs

If you need work done, the report gives roofers a clear brief. They’ll see each defect and its location, so their quotes cover the same ground.

After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.

When you need someone else

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
  • Walls, floors and services below the roof
  • An exact number of years the roof has left

HP6: your questions answered

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

Will you climb onto the roof?

Where it is safe, yes. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the loft space. The Premium Survey adds a drone where applicable.

When will the report arrive?

The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.

Do you work in HP6?

Yes. We cover HP6 and the rest of Buckinghamshire. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?

No. We report on the roof’s condition, and the Standard and Premium packages include a structural check. It is not a structural engineer’s report and does not include calculations.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
