Need a roof survey in HP5?

Our roof survey service in HP5

Three packages cover most roofs: a Basic Survey from £150, a Standard Survey from £250 and a Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. The higher packages add more checks, such as moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Every package includes a written report. We survey lead flashings, chimney stacks and natural slate, and common reasons people get in touch are slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and standing water on a flat roof.

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours.

  1. You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
  3. Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
  4. Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
  5. You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.

What affects the price in HP5

Homes and roofs across HP5

Across HP5, we survey roofs for owners, landlords and agents, from Chesham, Pond Park and Chesham Bois to the quieter places in between. Every report comes with photographs and written recommendations.

Our area covers London and South East England, including HP5. London and South East England have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates.

Chesham: If you own a rental within reach of Amersham station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. Historic houses like Cholesbury Manor House, about 3.5 miles north-west, show how far back building around Chesham goes. Older homes in the area may have roofs that need matching materials when work is done.

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • File the report with your home documents
  • Mention any flat roofs as well as the main roof
  • Take photos of any leaks as they happen
  • Have details of recent roof work to hand

The recommendations are prioritised by urgency where relevant. Some things need prompt attention, others can be planned for. It makes the next steps much clearer.

Look at your roof from the ground after strong winds. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roof coverings

A felt roof frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, while EPDM rubber frequently lasts 30 to 50 years and GRP up to about 30. We look at how the covering is wearing.

Clay plain and peg tiles

Handmade and machine-made clay tiles are long-lasting. We check for cracked, slipped and missing tiles, and for spalling where the surface has flaked.

What this survey can’t tell you

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:

  • Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
  • Walls, floors and services below the roof
  • Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets

For landlords and managing agents

Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in HP5. To discuss a property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

What affects the cost of roof surveys

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Every price we give includes VAT. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.

Booking your survey

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.

Common questions in HP5

How long will you be at the property?

The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.

What’s the best way to book?

It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or email us. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run on any day of the week.

Do you use drones?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

Will the report say how many years my roof has left?

We do not give a number of years. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it is wearing, with recommendations ranked by urgency.

How quickly will I get the report?

That depends on which survey you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We send it by email.
