How a roof survey works in SL7

Our roof surveys cover SL7 and the wider South East. Visits run on any day of the week. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. When you’re ready to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We survey chimney stacks, clay and concrete tiles and flat roofs, and people most often book us about gutters that overflow in heavy rain and lifted, split or missing lead flashings.

The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.

  1. You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
  3. We check the roof from every safe vantage point outside.
  4. We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
  5. You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.

Homes and roofs across SL7

In SL7, our roof surveys work takes in owners, landlords and managing agents, in Marlow, Booker and Marlow Bottom and well beyond. Each report sets out what was seen, with photographs and recommendations.

Our area covers London and the South East, including SL7. Housing here runs from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates.

Marlow: If you live in an older home near Congregational Church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. With Harleyford Manor about 2 miles south-west, the area around Marlow has a long history. Older homes in the area may have roofs that need matching materials when work is done.

Roof by roof

Lead flashings and valleys

Flashings close the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. We check for lead that has lifted, split or slipped.

Natural slate

From the loft, we check the underside of a slate roof. Older roofs may have bitumen felt underlay, and very old roofs none, and we note its condition.

For landlords and managing agents

We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

Why get it checked now?

Without a survey, you’re guessing at what the roof needs. You might pay for work that doesn’t fix the real problem, or to a real problem being missed. We tell you what’s really needed.

Before you book any surveyor

  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • What follow-up you get after the report

What affects the price in SL7

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Which survey package you book
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

Helping us price your survey

There’s no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Dates you are working to, like exchange
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

For a price for roof surveys in SL7, call 07833 053749 or email us. The address, the type of property and what you need to know help us price the survey accurately.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • A full building survey of the property
  • An exact number of years the roof has left
  • Asbestos testing of any kind

Common questions in SL7

Do you need to get into the loft?

Where it’s relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

Will you climb onto the roof?

Only when it’s safe. We also use views from ground level, windows and the roof space.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?

Yes, the part you own or can give access to. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.

Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?

We do not put a figure on it, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. Instead, we set out what’s sound, what’s wearing and what to do first.

Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
