Our roof survey service in SL8

Across London and the South East, roofs differ widely. If your home is a Victorian terrace, it may have Welsh slate, a butterfly roof and parapet gutters, while many post-war homes have concrete interlocking tiles. Whatever yours has, the survey is adapted to it. Some older homes have clay tiles, and many have a flat-roofed extension as well. Every part gets the attention it needs. We survey the roof space, natural slate and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are torn or sagging underlay and slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles.

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes about one to two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there.

  1. We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it’s safe.
  4. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with recommendations prioritised by urgency.

What affects the price in SL8

Roof surveys across SL8: local notes

Across SL8, we survey roofs for owners, landlords and agents, from Bourne End, Cores End and Well End to the quieter places in between. Every report comes with photographs and written recommendations.

Even in the South East, autumn and winter storms find any loose slate, tile or ridge. Ridges, verges and flashings in SL8 are where it typically shows.

Bourne End: If you live in an older home near St Mark, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Take a building like Wye Valley School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Surveys for landlords and agents in SL8

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

How we price roof surveys

To price your survey, we check:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Helping us price your survey

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • What made you get in touch
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Why get it checked now?

Leaving it means relying on what you can see from ground level. That can lead to the wrong work being done, or to a real problem being missed. A survey tells you what actually needs attention.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours

What a survey doesn’t cover

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A full building survey of the property
  • A promise that the roof won’t leak in future

Tips that help

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Include dormers, porches and garages when you book
  • Photograph stains when they appear
  • Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
  • Don’t climb onto the roof yourself

Premium comes with a follow-up after 12 months. It shows how the roof has fared over the year, and whether work has done its job.

Look at your roof from the ground after strong winds. Slipped slates, lifted ridge tiles or pieces in the garden are signs something has moved. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.

Your questions about roof surveys in SL8

What do you check on a roof survey?

Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, plus the roof space where there’s safe access. You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

Do you go up on the roof?

When the roof and the conditions make it safe, yes. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.

What if it rains on the day?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions aren’t right, we’ll talk to you about another date.

Will the report say how many years my roof has left?

Not as a figure. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it’s wearing, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
