Surveys for landlords and agents in Taplow

Landlords, agents and building managers in Taplow and across Windsor and Maidenhead can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, call 07833 053749 or email us.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer.

Roof survey in Taplow: what you get

We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it is safe. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where applicable, for roofs that are hard to see well. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. We survey ridges, hips and valleys, flat roofs and the roof space, and people most often book us about slates or tiles that have slipped or broken and loose chimney pots.

Older buildings in small places like Taplow may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

What affects the price in Taplow

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The size of the roof
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What to tell us when you contact us

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Different roofs, different checks

Lead flashings and valleys

Most leaks begin at a joint rather than the middle of a slope. They get particular attention in every survey.

Concrete interlocking tiles

On low-pitched roofs, the laps and fixings of interlocking tiles matter. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted, especially at the verges and ridge.

Roof surveys in Taplow: local notes

Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters. The wider area around Taplow has a long history of building, with Cliveden about 1.8 miles north. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you live near a park such as Braywick Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys. If you look after a building like St Nicolas' Church of England Combined School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. For landlords with property near Taplow station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Before and after the survey

You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
  • Leave roof access to professionals
  • Watch for slipped slates after bad weather

File the report with your other home documents. It gives you something to compare against later, and buyers may ask about the roof when you sell.

Look at your roof from ground level after strong winds. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.

Common questions in Taplow

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Taplow station?

Yes, that’s a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and we can send the report to you or your agent.

Will you come out to Taplow?

Yes, Taplow is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?

No. Our survey looks at the condition of the roof, and the Standard and Premium packages include a structural check. It does not include structural calculations, which need an engineer.

Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?

No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

How soon is the report ready?

It depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It’s emailed to you.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How it works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, emailed to you. On timing, it normally takes about one to two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Rural addresses near Taplow can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
  2. We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
  3. Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
  4. Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
