Your questions about new roof snagging in Slough

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Slough?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Slough?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Slough is part of that. You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

How many surveys have you done?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

Do you get involved if the roofer disagrees with the report?

No. Our job is to report on the roof as we find it. Any dispute is between you and your roofer or builder and our report gives you an independent record.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

How long will you be on site?

It usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. You’ll know roughly how long when we arrange it.

About our new roof snagging in Slough

We check the coverings, ridges, verges, hips and valleys, along with the flashings and ventilation. At the eaves we check how the underlay is dressed into the gutter, where it can be seen as well as the gutters. You get a photo report of what we found. We also note debris left behind and any damage to other parts of the building. We survey new flat roofs, new-build homes and flashings and valleys, and people most often book us about loose or badly finished ridge tiles and vents that weren’t fitted or are covered.

Flats above shops, converted houses and newer blocks are common in places the size of Slough. If you are buying a flat, the roof is frequently shared, and the lease typically says who looks after it. If the roof is newly replaced, whoever paid for it will want the work checked before signing it off.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

How it works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. Where a building in Slough has a manager or access rules, those are sorted out before the day. For homes, clear the way to the loft hatch and let us know about any leaks you know of. The written report follows, with photos.

  1. We start with what the roofer did and when they finished.
  2. We check the coverings, ridges, hips and verges from safe vantage points.
  3. Valleys, flashings, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are checked.
  4. We check the loft where safe and look for debris or damage.
  5. Snags are listed in a report with photos.

Before the survey

  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

New roof snagging around Slough

Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Material and age explain a lot of what turns up on the day, whether the roof is old or brand new. The wider area around Slough has a long history of building, with Windsor Castle about 2.1 miles south. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Michael and All Angels, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.

Signs you need new roof snagging in Slough

Most householders cannot get a good look at their new roof. Without an independent check, you’re relying on what can be seen from ground level and you may be asked to pay anyway.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Offcuts and broken tiles left behind
  • Untidy or loose verge details
  • Loose flashings at walls or chimneys
  • Underlay ending short at the eaves

For landlords with property near Slough station, a survey before purchase, or before signing off a new roof, saves surprises once a tenant moves in.

What a good roof survey covers

Checking the roof from the ground

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.

Useful tips for Slough property owners

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Check that gutters weren’t left full of offcuts
  • Tell your roofer the work will be inspected
  • Raise snags in writing with your roofer
  • Check before your warranty period ends

How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. That is worth bearing in mind if a payment date is close.

Keep the final payment until the roof has been checked, where your contract allows. It gives the roofer a reason to finish everything.

Different roofs, different checks

Ridges, hips and verges

Loose ridge or hip tiles are a common snag. We photograph any we find.

Valleys

A valley takes water from two slopes, so it needs to be finished well. We look at the valley lining and the cut tiles or slates beside it.
