Pre-purchase roof surveys for Slough homes and businesses

Pre-purchase roof surveys for homes and businesses in Slough

Our packages start with the Basic Survey from £150, while Standard starts from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check. Premium goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where it applies and a same-day report. Pick the one that fits the property. All three include a report with photos and recommendations. Typical surveys look at gaps where slates or tiles have come loose and damp timbers or stains in the loft, on natural slate, lead flashings and valleys and flat-roofed extensions and dormers.

A place the size of Slough has homes of every age, from older terraces and villas to post-war estates and recent developments. A roof on a Victorian house fails in different ways from one on a 1960s semi or a new build. Whether you are buying or have just paid for a new roof, knowing which you are dealing with shapes what gets checked.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What you can safely check yourself

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

FAQs for Slough

Do you cover Slough?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Slough as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Slough?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Can I take the findings back to the seller?

Yes. You might ask for work to be done, ask questions or ask for a change to the price. What the seller agrees to is their decision, so we can’t promise any saving.

How long will you be at the property?

On site, it typically takes between one and two hours at the house you’re buying, depending on its size and how much of the roof can be seen. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

How do I book a survey in Slough?

To book, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Should I get a roof survey as well as a RICS home survey?

They do different things. A RICS home survey covers the whole building, while ours looks only at the roof, in more detail. Our survey complements a RICS survey and does not replace one.

What we look for on each type of roof

Lead flashings and valleys

Flashings are a common source of leaks, so we look at each one closely. Any that need attention are photographed and explained.

Gutters and parapets

Hidden gutters behind parapets send water indoors when they block. We look at their linings and outlets from wherever is safe.

What we can’t see

Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • Asbestos testing of any kind
  • Anything beyond the roof, which a full home survey covers
  • Faults hidden behind ceilings, boards or coverings

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Slough

Sellers aren’t always aware of roof problems. The forms they complete only show what they’re aware of. An independent look tells you how the roof is now. In a place with as many rented homes as Slough, small roof faults frequently turn into tenant complaints. Spotting it early is easier than dealing with water damage in an occupied home.

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we will tell you which fits.

What you get with us

Signs you need a pre-purchase roof survey in Slough

A chimney stack stands out in the wind and rain and they’re often the least maintained part of a roof. Pointing crumbles, flaunching cracks and flashings lift. A stack may be shared with the neighbours, which matters if work is needed.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Chimney mortar that has eroded
  • Standing water on a flat extension roof
  • Slipped or missing slates and tiles
  • Flashings that have lifted or split

If you own a rental within reach of Slough station, the roof is worth checking before you add another property to a portfolio or pay a roofer in full.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What’s in a roof survey

Slough homes and their roofs

The wider area around Slough has a long history of building, with Windsor Castle about 2.1 miles south. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

The streets around a church like St Michael and All Angels are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.

The survey, step by step

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. The survey normally takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Town-centre streets in Slough can mean pay-and-display or permit parking, so a word about where to park saves time. We’ll want to see the loft, if there is one, and any ceiling or wall showing damp. Outside, the roof is viewed from every point that is safe.

  1. After your offer is agreed, you book and share your timetable.
  2. Access to the house and the loft space is agreed ahead of time.
  3. The visit begins outside, from ground level and any safe vantage points.
  4. Inside, we check the roof space and look at the roof from windows.
  5. The report is emailed with photos and recommendations, ready to use before exchange.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
