Drone roof survey in Batchworth
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.
Somewhere as small as Batchworth, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Why it is worth a survey now in Batchworth
Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. In a small place like Batchworth, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
What you get with us
- Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- PI and public liability insurance
- Two decades and more of roof surveys
- Surveys seven days a week
Your questions about drone roof surveys in Batchworth
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Batchworth?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
How do I find out if my home in Batchworth is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when you book.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we’ll point you to the right survey. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
What if it rains on the day?
It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Drones, thermal imaging and Batchworth roofs
The wider area around Batchworth has a long history of building, with Chenies Manor House about 4.4 miles north-west. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Charter Place, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Anyone responsible for a site like St Mary's Church of England Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- The size of the roof
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.
What to tell us when you get in touch
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Anything about access we should know
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.
Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
How it works
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect about one to two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Batchworth, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Arrange a survey
If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.
