Drone roof survey in Newick: what you get

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We are frequently asked to look into flashings that have come away and moss and weeds taking hold up top, on fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.

In a village or hamlet like Newick, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Roof by roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Tips from our surveys

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

Newick: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Newick?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Will you come out to Newick?

Yes. Newick is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

How long will you be at the property?

Allow roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. We’ll give you an idea of timing when you book.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Only with the right permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.

What if it’s windy or raining on the day?

Bad weather means no flight. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

Why act early in Newick

A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. In a place like Newick, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take an hour or two on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older rural homes like those around Newick can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Tell us about parking before the day

Advice

Drones, thermal imaging and Newick roofs

Older houses across Sussex frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council.

For an older house near a landmark such as Zion Chapel, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building like Newick Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

For landlords and managing agents

Landlords and letting agents in Newick book surveys as well as householders. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.

Honest limits

It is useful to know what a survey won’t do before you book:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
