Drone roof survey in East Sussex: how it works

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and common reasons people get in touch are chimney tops in poor condition and hidden gutters full of leaves.

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take between one and two hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Airspace, weather and roofs across East Sussex

Airspace across East Sussex varies from one address to the next. Each flight is planned against the Drone Safety Map and the forecast.

London and South East England mix slate and clay tile roofs on older homes with concrete tiles on many later ones. That variety shapes every survey in East Sussex. Some of East Sussex sits close to the sea, so wind can decide whether a drone flies or a roof can be reached safely. If conditions are not right, the visit moves to a calmer day.

Eastbourne: Hotels and guest houses near Eastbourne cannot easily close rooms for a leak. The streets around a church such as St Andrew are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Why act early?

From ground level, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?

Different roofs, different checks

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area.

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Which survey package you book
  • Roof area
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Height and safe access

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Getting in touch

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • What’s prompted the survey

We confirm the exact price before you book, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

What a survey does not cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

East Sussex: your questions answered

Are you registered with the CAA?

Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

What happens next?

The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

How soon will I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it is agreed before booking.

Is East Sussex in your area?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes East Sussex.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control, which can add time. Book early if you think you may be affected.
