Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Iden
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We are often asked to look into debris building up in hidden gutters and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
Older buildings in small places like Iden may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

FAQs for Iden
Is drone flying allowed in Iden?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Is Iden within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Iden?
Simply call 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
What happens after the survey?
You’ll receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions aren’t right, we will talk to you about another date.
When does the report arrive?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.
What this survey cannot tell you
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs
When to book a survey in Iden
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
People normally book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Wind damage high on the roof
Lamb House lies about 2.2 miles south, so building around Iden goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
What to check before booking
- How soon the report will arrive
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What happens after the report arrives
- What they will not be able to tell you
Drones, thermal imaging and Iden roofs
Iden lies within about 4 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like St Michael's Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For an older house near a landmark like The Parish Church of All Saints, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Roof by roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.
For landlords and managing agents
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.

What we do, step by step
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes an hour or two for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Iden often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
Arrange a survey
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
