Drones, thermal imaging and Belmont roofs

Belmont is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

The streets around a church such as Emmanuel Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you run a business near Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Hotels and guest houses near Belmont can’t easily close rooms for a leak.

Belmont is about 1 mile south-east of Hastings, in East Sussex. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Belmont can all book drone roof surveys. Across East Sussex, we cover Belmont and the places around it. There’s also a page for Maidstone.

Surveys in TN34 and TN35 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Streets in the area include Crown Lane, Croft Road and Manor Road. We also cover the places around Belmont: Hastings Old Town (1 mile south), Rock-a-Nore (1 mile south-east), America Ground (1 mile south-west), Blacklands (1 mile north-west) and St Helen's (1 mile north-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Eastbourne (14 miles west), Bexhill-on-Sea (5 miles west), Hailsham (15 miles west), Polegate (15 miles west), Old Town (15 miles south-west) and Upper Horsebridge (15 miles west).

Around Belmont

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Linton Gardens, The Roebuck Inn and University School and the streets around them. Nearby too are William Parker Sports College (1.4 miles north-west) and Roman Catholic Church of St Mary Star of the Sea (within half a mile east). For rail, the closest station is Ore station, about 0.5 miles north. A little further out are Priory Meadow Shopping Centre (under half a mile south-west) and Hastings Castle (under half a mile south-west). The countryside around Belmont includes Church Wood and Robsack Wood.

Drone roof survey in Belmont

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed blocked valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, we can find out what’s behind it, on large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors alike.

In smaller places like Belmont, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you cannot see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.

The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

How the survey changes by roof type

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area.

Common questions in Belmont

Do you cover smaller places like Belmont?

Yes. Belmont is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Belmont?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Does the weather affect the survey?

A survey can usually go ahead in light rain. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

What will the report tell me?

A report with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Getting in touch

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access

If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you’re ready.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

What happens on the day

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take about one to two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a smaller place like Belmont, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property

Practical tips

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

Honest limits

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
