About our drone roof survey in Old Town

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. Common reasons to book are lifted or split lead flashings and moss and weeds taking hold up top, across flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs.

Older cottages and houses around Old Town may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

For landlords and managing agents

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Old Town

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. The drone covers the surface area by area. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Their insurance cover
  • What exactly goes into their report

What to expect from a roof survey

Why get it checked now?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. On a bungalow or cottage around Old Town, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photos, emailed to you. On timing, it usually takes between one and two hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. A visit to a smaller place like Old Town is no different on the day: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Advice

Flying and imaging in Old Town

Old Town lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

For hotels and guest houses around Old Town, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.

FAQs for Old Town

Is my home in Old Town listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you come out to Old Town?

Yes. Old Town is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

The drone gives you detailed photos of the outside of the roof. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

When does the report arrive?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.

Are you insured?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Old Town?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.

Before and after the survey

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Old Town

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Roof area
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:

  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you’re ready.
