Drone roof survey in Rock-a-Nore: what you get
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and plant growth and moss on the roof.
Around Rock-a-Nore, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How we price drone roof surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Height and safe access
- The size of the roof
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Common questions in Rock-a-Nore
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Rock-a-Nore?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to Rock-a-Nore?
Yes, Rock-a-Nore is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
What about my neighbours’ privacy?
We take care around neighbouring homes. We photograph your roof, not your neighbours’ property. Letting neighbours know beforehand helps.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
How quickly is the report sent?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.
What will the report tell me?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Rock-a-Nore
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.
Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.
What we cannot see
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
What happens on the day
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Parking around Rock-a-Nore is typically easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can frequently be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit

- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

Advice
Flying and imaging in Rock-a-Nore
Rock-a-Nore is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Ebenezer Particular Baptist Chapel, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Rock-a-Nore
Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
Look out for signs like these:
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
Anyone responsible for a site like Ark Castledown Primary Academy will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Questions to ask before booking
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- How soon the report will arrive
- Whether you get a written report with photos
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
