Drone roof survey in Wood's Corner: what you get

Our price is from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we will say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We are often asked to look into wind damage high on the roof and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, across chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs.

In a village or hamlet like Wood's Corner, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

The survey, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Wood's Corner often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed

Advice

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You can’t see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It helps when you plan ahead. In a place like Wood's Corner, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What affects the price in Wood's Corner

We confirm the price for your roof before booking. These are the things that affect it:

  • How big the roof is
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The shape of the roof and its details

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Getting in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.

When you need someone else

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:

  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

Questions from Wood's Corner

Is Wood's Corner within the area you cover?

Yes, Wood's Corner is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Wood's Corner?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.

Flying and imaging in Wood's Corner

Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

For an older house near a landmark such as The Parish Church of St Giles, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. If you look after a building such as Dallington Church of England Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. With Bateman's about 2.9 miles north, the area around Wood's Corner has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.
