Drone roof surveys near Ridgewood

Can I check my roof myself?

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Ridgewood

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We are frequently asked to look into cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and lifted or split lead flashings, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs.

Places like Ridgewood can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Ridgewood questions

Is Ridgewood within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ridgewood?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when booking.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

What insurance do you have?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

The camera stays on your roof. We inspect only the roof you’ve asked about. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

Why get it checked now?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. On a bungalow or cottage around Ridgewood, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Why book with us

  • Two decades and more of roof surveys
  • A photo-illustrated written report
  • Clear package prices, with VAT included
  • PI and public liability insurance

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them.

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

Tips from our surveys

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:

  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

What happens on the day

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Homes around Ridgewood often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before we arrive

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Check pets are kept safely away

Advice

Drone roof surveys in Ridgewood: local notes

Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

If you look after a building like Harlands Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to St Saviour: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
