Drone roof survey in Maresfield
Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are standing water on a flat roof and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof.
In a small place like Maresfield, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

Airspace, weather and Maresfield roofs
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
The streets around a church such as The Parish Church of St Bartholomew are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Maresfield is about 2 miles north of Uckfield, in East Sussex. Maresfield is part of the area we cover across London and South East England. Maresfield is one of the towns and villages in East Sussex we cover. There is also a page for Crawley.

How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report. On timing, it usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere like Maresfield needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Prices for drone roof surveys in Maresfield
Our packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The roof’s overall size
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What to let us know when you get in touch
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- What’s prompted the survey
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Can I check my roof myself?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
When to book a survey in Maresfield
Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.
It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
If you look after a building such as Bonners CofE School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- What insurance they carry
- What follow-up you get after the report
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Is VAT included in the price?
What happens if roof problems are left?
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Around Maresfield, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Your questions about drone roof surveys in Maresfield
How do I find out if my home in Maresfield is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is drone flying allowed in Maresfield?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It depends on the weather and the survey. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, and we’d agree another day.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
