Our roof survey service in RH15
Three packages cover most roofs: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT. The Basic Survey gives a visual inspection, photographs and written recommendations. The higher packages add more checks, like moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Each one comes with a written report. We survey flat roofs, natural slate and lead flashings, and people most frequently book us about leaning or weathered chimney stacks and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone.
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey normally takes an hour or two for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We check the roof from every safe viewpoint outside.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
- We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Prices in RH15
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT.
Why choose Independent Roof Survey
- Prices that include VAT
- Independent findings on the roof’s condition
- A sub-250g drone, flown with a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Insured for professional indemnity and public liability

Local landmarks in Burgess Hill
We work in homes and buildings around St John the Evangelist's Church, The Six Gold Martlets pub and Oakmeeds Community College, among other places. Nearby too are Burgess Hill Girls (0.5 miles south) and St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School (under half a mile south-west). There is a railway station in Burgess Hill itself: Burgess Hill station. Nearby you’ll also find Burgess Hill Museum (less than half a mile south-west) and Clayton Castle (3.4 miles south). Not far away are Bedelands Farm Nature Reserve and Wolstonbury Hill.
Homes and roofs across RH15
Owners across RH15, from Burgess Hill, Lewes and World's End to the villages, book us to find out where their roof stands. Small faults, caught early, are far easier to deal with.
We survey roofs across London and the South East, and RH15 is part of that. Housing here runs from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates.
Burgess Hill: If you live in an older home near St John the Evangelist's Church, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. Anyone responsible for a site like St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.
When you need someone else
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A structural engineer’s report
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
- How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
- Watch for slipped slates after bad weather
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Do not climb onto the roof yourself
Your report arrives by email, with photos of what we found. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. Findings are explained in plain words, with recommendations.
After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.
Landlords, agents and block managers in RH15
Landlords and agents in RH15 book surveys as well as householders. A report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, useful for planning maintenance.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
What affects the price in RH15
When we price a survey, we consider:
- How big the roof is
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Which survey package you book
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
What to let us know when you get in touch
We’ll usually ask about:
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
FAQs for RH15
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and recommends a specialist asbestos surveyor looks at them.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
What does a roof survey include?
Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, along with the loft where it is safe. You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Are you insured?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
How many surveys have you done?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
