Laughton Drone Roof Survey
Drone roof surveys across Laughton, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. Every survey ends with a written report and photographs.
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
How a drone roof survey works in Laughton
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. Common reasons to book are plant growth and moss on the roof and outlets choked with leaves and silt, across large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs.
Older buildings in small places like Laughton may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. In a small place like Laughton, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Laughton questions
How do I find out if my home in Laughton is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover smaller places like Laughton?
Yes, Laughton is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when booking.
Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?
Yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and keep it in sight at all times.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
What happens on the day
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes an hour or two for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older rural homes like those around Laughton can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Tips that help
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Let us know what you want to see
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Book early if you’re near an airport
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Roof by roof
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Chimney stacks
The top of a stack is typically out of view. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
How we price drone roof surveys
Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- How big the roof is
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
Helping us price your survey
A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
