Steel Cross Drone Roof Survey
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Steel Cross from an independent roof surveyor. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Height and safe access
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The roof’s overall size
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.
Booking your survey
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- What made you get in touch
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.
About our drone roof survey in Steel Cross
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. Typical surveys look at flashings that have come away and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, on tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
Villages like Steel Cross often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Different roofs, different checks
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically, so nothing is skipped.
Drone roof surveys around Steel Cross
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
The streets around a church like The Parish Church of All Saints are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Groombridge Place, about 3.8 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Steel Cross. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Beacon Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Steel Cross is about 1 mile north-east of Crowborough, in East Sussex. Whether the building in Steel Cross is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed. Steel Cross is one of the places in East Sussex where we work for drone roof surveys. Our Crawley page covers surveys nearby.

What this survey can’t tell you
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- A structural engineer’s report
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Steel Cross questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Steel Cross?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Steel Cross?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you as you book.
Will you check the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
When does the report arrive?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

What happens on the day
We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Somewhere like Steel Cross needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Find any records of previous roof work
