About our drone roof survey in Heathfield

Drone roof surveys are available in Heathfield and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most often book us about blocked valleys and parapet gutters and chimney tops in poor condition.

Even in a smaller place like Heathfield, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Heathfield is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Heathfield: your questions answered

Is my home in Heathfield listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you come out to Heathfield?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

What’s in the report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put by urgency where it matters.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

What if it’s windy or raining on the day?

The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. We’ll talk through the options if the day turns bad.

Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?

No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. The roof space is checked separately, where there is safe access, as damp and daylight frequently show there first.

How do I book a survey in Heathfield?

It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we will point you to the right survey. We survey seven days a week.

Why get it checked now?

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It is useful for planning maintenance over the years. Around Heathfield, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Why us?

  • Prices that include VAT
  • Independent findings on the roof’s condition
  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Insured for professional indemnity and public liability

What you can safely check yourself

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Heathfield

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we check:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Height and safe access
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What we need to know

We will normally ask about:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • What’s prompted the survey

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Heathfield

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

Here are some of the things we see frequently:

  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Standing water on a flat roof

Take an older house close to St Richards Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Their insurance cover
  • What experience they bring
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone

What to expect from a roof survey

Flying and imaging in Heathfield

Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

Take a building like Parkside Community Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
