Independent drone roof surveys in Winchelsea

Roof by roof

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

Drone roof survey in Winchelsea: what you get

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. Common reasons to book are lifted or split lead flashings and cracked mortar along the ridge, on valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs.

Somewhere as small as Winchelsea, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.

Getting in touch

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Common questions in Winchelsea

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Winchelsea?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Is my home in Winchelsea listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before you book. For a price, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access as you book.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You’ll then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Checking the roof from the ground

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Common roof problems in Winchelsea

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose

For an older house near a landmark such as The Parish Church of St Thomas the Martyr, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • What they will not be able to tell you
  • What exactly goes into their report

What to expect from a roof survey

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

It helps to know what a survey won’t do before booking:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

Roofs we survey in Winchelsea

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks

What happens on the day

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Winchelsea can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before we arrive

  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Leave side gates unlocked

How to book

Getting a price is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us some details about the property and we’ll recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Winchelsea lies within about 2 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Lamb House lies about 2 miles north-east, so building around Winchelsea goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.
