Drone roof survey in The Pound

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone isn’t the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are ridge and hip pieces working loose and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.

In a small place like The Pound, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Why act early in The Pound

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Older cottages and farmhouses around The Pound can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we check:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • Roof area
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

What we need to know

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roofs we survey in The Pound

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

The survey, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit usually takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near The Pound can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Before and after the survey

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

Drone roof surveys around The Pound

If your home is older, it is worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

In and around The Pound, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early. Take an older house close to Parish Church of St Peter: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Questions from The Pound

Is drone flying allowed in The Pound?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Will you come out to The Pound?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

What happens after the survey?

You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain does not normally stop a survey. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we will arrange another day with you.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.
