About our storm damage roof report in The Pound
If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from the ground or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. We then record the damage in a report you can pass to your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. Typical surveys look at flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and gutters pulled loose in the wind, on gutters and fascias, flashings and ridges and hips.
For a small place like The Pound, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. Let us know where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Leaks and storm damage in The Pound
What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed.
If you let a flat or house near Battle station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. Trees in and around Ashburnham Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.
The Pound is about 5 miles north-west of Bexhill-on-Sea, in East Sussex. We survey roofs in The Pound and the rest of East Sussex, as part of our work across London and the South East. The Pound is one of the places in East Sussex we cover. There’s also a page for Brighton.
Storm damage roof reports in TN33 are booked the same way as anywhere else. We cover properties on Church Road and Linghams Lane and the roads around them. We also cover the places around The Pound: Ashburnham (1 mile north), Brownbread Street (1 mile north-west), Bodle Street Green (2 miles west), Wood's Corner (3 miles north) and Trolliloes (3 miles west). Further out, we also cover Eastbourne (9 miles south-west), Hastings (8 miles east), Bexhill-on-Sea (5 miles south-east), Seaford (15 miles south-west), Hailsham (7 miles south-west) and Crowborough (14 miles north-west).

What we’re asked to look at in The Pound
Flat roofs can be damaged too. Wind can lift edges and tear coverings, and blocked outlets can leave water ponding after heavy rain. Our report covers flat and pitched roofs.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Loose or torn flashings
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
- Slipped or missing slates or tiles
- Broken or displaced guttering
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Parish Church of St Peter, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
- How soon the report will arrive
- What they will not be able to tell you
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
Why act early in The Pound
If a roofer needs to make the roof safe, take photos first if you can do so safely from the ground. Those photos show the damage as it was. Older cottages and farmhouses around The Pound can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we will tell you which fits.
Why book with us

Questions from The Pound
Is The Pound in the area you cover?
We do. The survey and report are the same in The Pound as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Will you come out to The Pound?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We aren’t loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage, which you can pass to your insurer.
How long is the visit?
It normally takes between one and two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. The written report follows by email.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed.
Tips from our surveys
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
- Keep receipts for any emergency work
- Read your policy wording on storm damage
- Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
Questions about the findings are always welcome. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.
Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

What else we do in The Pound
What happens on the day
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Rural addresses near The Pound can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Before the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
How to book
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or email us with the details.
Advice
Checking the roof from ground level
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
