Thermal roof surveys in The Pound

Thermal roof survey in The Pound: what you get

Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. That means a wet area can show up as a different temperature from the rest of the roof. This can give an idea of how far water has travelled beneath the membrane, something you can’t typically tell from the surface. We then check those areas with moisture readings. If you’ve noticed damp around roof outlets and upstands and water that travels before it shows, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a village or hamlet like The Pound, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we look for on each type of roof

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Felt and asphalt sit tight to the layers below, which often helps the camera pick up differences. Any patterns are checked with moisture readings.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.

Drones, thermal imaging and The Pound roofs

If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.

What affects the price in The Pound

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.

What to let us know when you get in touch

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • What kind of property and roof it is

We confirm the price for the job before booking, so you know where you stand. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

What we’re asked to look at in The Pound

Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Missing or slipped insulation can stand out as temperature differences, particularly when there is a clear difference between inside and outside.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Damp around chimneys and parapets
  • Ceilings that feel colder in places
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Damp around roof outlets and upstands

Take an older house close to Parish Church of St Peter: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Choosing a roof surveyor

What a roof survey includes

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • A formal energy assessment
  • Proving moisture from the images alone

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes

Tips that help

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
  • Do not climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself

You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Because the images are paired with photos, it’s easy to find each area on the roof.

Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

Questions from The Pound

Do you carry out roof surveys in The Pound?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and The Pound is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the property.

How do I find out if my home in The Pound is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

The camera records how the surface temperature varies. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. We check what it shows with moisture readings.

How quickly is the report sent?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

What happens after the survey?

You’ll receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

What’s in the survey report?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.

How it works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take about one to two hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older roofs in small places like The Pound can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We check the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
