Drone roof surveys in Trolliloes

Checking the roof from ground level

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

How a drone roof survey works in Trolliloes

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We do not fly in strong wind or a downpour, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. Typical surveys look at coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, across fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.

Older buildings in small places like Trolliloes may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

How the survey works

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older roofs in small places like Trolliloes can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Tips from our surveys

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Trolliloes questions

Are there drone restrictions around Trolliloes?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Trolliloes?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Do I need to be at home?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when you book.

Can you survey in bad weather?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we’ll arrange another day with you.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Trolliloes?

To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

What this survey can’t tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs

What a survey costs

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What to let us know when you contact us

You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window

Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, let us know about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.
