Drone Roof Survey in Pett
Wondering about the roof at a property in Pett? You can book a drone roof survey in Pett and across East Sussex.
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
Can I check my roof myself?
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
How a drone roof survey works in Pett
We carry out drone roof surveys in Pett and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us. If you’ve noticed lifted or split lead flashings and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, we can find out what’s behind it.
Some older homes in villages like Pett are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Before and after the survey
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
When you need someone else
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

FAQs for Pett
Do you cover smaller places like Pett?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Pett?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Pett?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we will recommend the right survey. Surveys run on any day of the week.
Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?
Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.
What if it’s windy or raining on the day?
The flight waits for better weather. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Let us know about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Flying and imaging in Pett
Pett lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Older houses across Sussex frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
Lamb House lies about 4.7 miles north-east, so building around Pett goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary & St Peter, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Pett is about 5 miles east of Hastings, in East Sussex. From houses to flats and shops in Pett, we can survey the roof. Across East Sussex, we cover Pett. Our Maidstone page covers surveys nearby.

We work in homes and buildings around The Royal Oak Inn. For rail, the closest station is Three Oaks station, about 2.5 miles west. Nearby you’ll also find Conquest Hospital (4.5 miles west) and Winchelsea Court Hall Museum (2.7 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.
Why act early in Pett
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. In a small place like Pett, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

How the survey works
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Pett, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Keep pets in another room
