Fairlight Cove Drone Roof Survey
Know where you stand with the roof before you spend money on it. We carry out drone roof surveys in Fairlight Cove.
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
How a drone roof survey works in Fairlight Cove
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We do not fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we will agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. If you are worried about standing water on a flat roof and wind damage high on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.
Older buildings in small places like Fairlight Cove may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Checking the roof from ground level
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
The survey, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older rural homes like those around Fairlight Cove can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
Getting a price
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Advice
Landlord and commercial surveys in Fairlight Cove
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.
Common roof problems in Fairlight Cove
Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
For site and facilities teams at buildings like The Hastings Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
What to check before booking
- What experience they bring
- What insurance they carry
- Whether VAT is added on top
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
Prices for drone roof surveys in Fairlight Cove
Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Roof area
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Fairlight Cove
Is Fairlight Cove within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Is my home in Fairlight Cove listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
What happens after the survey?
The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
Does your drone take thermal images?
Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
Airspace, weather and Fairlight Cove roofs
Fairlight Cove lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
The streets around a church such as St Peter are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you run a business near Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
- A structural engineer’s report
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
