How a drone roof survey works in Guestling
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks, and people most frequently book us about storm damage on steep or tall roofs and standing water on a flat roof.
Somewhere as small as Guestling, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- House, block, shop or office
- Roof area
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.
Booking your survey
If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
Questions from Guestling
Are there drone restrictions around Guestling?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Do you cover smaller places like Guestling?
Yes. Guestling is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How soon will I get the report?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.
What will the report tell me?
Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, by urgency where it matters. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know the address and what you’d like to know. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain doesn’t usually stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.
Airspace, weather and Guestling roofs
Guestling lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
The streets around a church like St Laurence's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. If you look after a building like Guestling Bradshaw Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What we do, step by step
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Guestling can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

What else we do in Guestling
Why it is worth a survey now in Guestling
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. In a small place like Guestling, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.
Ridges and hips
The ridge takes wind from both sides. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.
Honest limits
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
