Drone roof surveys in Wellbrook

Questions from Wellbrook

Are there drone restrictions around Wellbrook?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is my home in Wellbrook listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Can you survey in bad weather?

It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.

What happens next?

You’ll get the report by email. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.

Do you look in the loft space?

If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Wellbrook

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are eroded pointing on a chimney stack and blocked valleys and parapet gutters.

Somewhere as small as Wellbrook, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Flying and imaging in Wellbrook

Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Take an older house close to Church of St. Dunstan: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

Getting in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It is useful to include:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

How the survey works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Wellbrook frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Why act early in Wellbrook

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Wellbrook, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Can I check my roof myself?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

When to book a survey in Wellbrook

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Mayfield Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

What to check before booking

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
