Drone roof surveys for Sweethaws homes and businesses

Leave it or get it looked at?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. In a place like Sweethaws, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.

Why us?

  • Drones and thermal imaging where it applies
  • An independent look at the roof
  • 5,000+ roofs surveyed

Drone roof survey in Sweethaws

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. We are frequently asked to look into tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and worn lead at chimneys and walls, across tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.

Somewhere as small as Sweethaws, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

Before and after the survey

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Tell us the exact address when you book
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Common questions in Sweethaws

Are there drone restrictions around Sweethaws?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is Sweethaws within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

What if it rains on the day?

Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or a downpour, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.

How do I book a survey in Sweethaws?

The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we will recommend the right survey. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Can I check my roof myself?

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

Flying and imaging in Sweethaws

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Beacon Academy, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Around Sweethaws, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It usually takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Sweethaws frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
