Drone roof survey in Snagshall: what you get

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. If you’ve noticed lead work pulling away at abutments and wind damage high on the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Snagshall may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Snagshall, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.

FAQs for Snagshall

How do I find out if my home in Snagshall is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you cover smaller places like Snagshall?

Yes. Snagshall is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We do not fly in high wind or heavy rain. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we can’t fly, we will arrange another day.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

Typically, it takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

Only with the right permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. If permission isn’t given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.

What we do, step by step

We will ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Snagshall, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Flying and imaging in Snagshall

In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St James, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Great Dixter lies about 2.2 miles east, so building around Snagshall goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Bodiam Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Surveys in Snagshall work the same way as everywhere we cover: a close look at what can be seen safely, photographs and a clear written report. With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Checking the roof from the ground

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Snagshall

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The shape of the roof and its details

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What to tell us when you contact us

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The address and postcode of the property

When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.
