Swaile's Green Drone Roof Survey
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out drone roof surveys in Swaile's Green and across East Sussex, with plain-English findings.
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
Useful tips for Swaile's Green property owners
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Swaile's Green
Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. Common reasons to book are lead work pulling away at abutments and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
Villages like Swaile's Green often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

What this survey cannot tell you
No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Swaile's Green
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Durhamford Manor lies about 1.2 miles south, so building around Swaile's Green goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you live in an older home near St Marks Staplecross, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building such as Staplecross Methodist Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What happens on the day
We will ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older rural homes like those around Swaile's Green can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.

Advice
Why get it checked now?
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photographs of every part we can see. That helps you put the work in order. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
What you get with us

Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Swaile's Green
Will you come out to Swaile's Green?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How do I find out if my home in Swaile's Green is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?
Sometimes, with permission. Airports like Gatwick, Luton and Southampton have flight restriction zones, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. If permission is not given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
What does the report include?
A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, in order of urgency where relevant. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
How much is a survey?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.
Roof by roof
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.
