Drone roof survey in Cripp's Corner: what you get
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. We survey large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and lead work pulling away at abutments.
In a small place like Cripp's Corner, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Advice
What a drone roof survey looks like in Cripp's Corner
With Durhamford Manor about 1.5 miles south, Cripp's Corner sits in an area with a long building history. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Marks Staplecross, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Take a building like Staplecross Methodist Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Cripp's Corner questions
Is my home in Cripp's Corner listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to Cripp's Corner?
Yes, Cripp's Corner is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but it can’t see under the coverings. We look in the loft from inside where it’s safe.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.
Useful tips for Cripp's Corner property owners
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Let us know what you want to see
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
