Checking the roof from ground level

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Drone roof survey in Flackley Ash

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed ridge pieces that have lifted and lead work pulling away at abutments, we can find out what’s behind it, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters alike.

Villages like Flackley Ash often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

How it works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Around Flackley Ash, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Keep pets in another room

Honest limits

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

Questions from Flackley Ash

Is drone flying allowed in Flackley Ash?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Will you come out to Flackley Ash?

Yes, Flackley Ash is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Flackley Ash?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

When does the report arrive?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when booking.

Before and after the survey

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:

  • Let us know the exact address as you book

  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Check there is room outside for the drone to take off

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

When to book a survey in Flackley Ash

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds

Take an older house close to The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before you book anyone

  • What they will not be able to tell you
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • Will the report include photos?
