Drone roof survey in Camber: what you get
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and common reasons people get in touch are lead work pulling away at abutments and ridge pieces that have lifted.
Some older homes in villages like Camber are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Camber questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Camber?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is my home in Camber listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Will you check the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Does the weather affect the survey?
A survey can typically go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.
How soon will I get the report?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, tell us when booking.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
When you need someone else
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

Can I check my roof myself?
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Camber
Camber is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Thomas the Apostle, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Lamb House lies about 2.8 miles west, so building around Camber goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

What affects the price in Camber
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The roof’s overall size
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.
Helping us price your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Camber frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
