Catsfield Drone Roof Survey
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach in Catsfield, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photographs.
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes about one to two hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older roofs in small places like Catsfield can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Advice
Drone roof survey in Catsfield: what you get
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we’ll say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you are worried about blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and worn lead at chimneys and walls, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors alike.
In a small place like Catsfield, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Airspace, weather and Catsfield roofs
Catsfield lies within about 5 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. About 4.4 miles north-east lies Durhamford Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Catsfield has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.
If you look after a building such as Catsfield Church of England Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Common questions in Catsfield
Will you come out to Catsfield?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Catsfield?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. A drone shows the outside surfaces of the roof in close detail, but it cannot see under the coverings. Where there is safe access, we check the loft space from inside.
What’s in the survey report?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Different roofs, different checks
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.
What you can safely check yourself
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Catsfield
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near The Parish Church of St Laurence, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- When you’ll get the report
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- What follow-up you get after the report
Honest limits
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.
