Drone roof survey in Shover's Green: what you get

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. If you’ve noticed damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and lifted or split lead flashings, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs alike.

Somewhere as small as Shover's Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Shover's Green?

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Standing water on a flat roof

Wadhurst Castle, about 1.6 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Shover's Green. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one

What a good roof survey covers

Prices for drone roof surveys in Shover's Green

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • The size of the roof
  • House, block, shop or office

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Helping us price your survey

There’s no need for technical words. Just let us know:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

We confirm the price for your roof before booking, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Why get it checked now?

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right. Older cottages and farmhouses around Shover's Green can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Drone roof surveys around Shover's Green

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

If you live in an older home near Shover's Green Baptist Chapel, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Uplands Community College, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

For landlords and managing agents

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

What happens on the day

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. The survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Shover's Green, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Shover's Green questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Shover's Green?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Are there drone restrictions around Shover's Green?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. You’ll then get the report by email.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

What if it rains on the day?

Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In high wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

Before and after the survey

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Book early if you’re near an airport

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
