Stonegate Drone Roof Survey
Wondering about the roof at a property in Stonegate? We carry out drone roof surveys in Stonegate and across East Sussex.
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Lifted or split lead flashings
How a drone roof survey works in Stonegate
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we will say so. We’re often asked to look into standing water on a flat roof and worn lead at chimneys and walls, on valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.
Some older homes in villages like Stonegate are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Different roofs, different checks
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We will say if a specialist is needed.
What we can’t see
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- A structural engineer’s report
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
Checking the roof from ground level
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
FAQs for Stonegate
Do you cover smaller places like Stonegate?
Yes. Stonegate is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Stonegate?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.
Are you insured?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
How soon will I get the report?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The size of the roof
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- The property’s address and postcode
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or send us an email, let us know about the property and we will explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
How it works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes an hour or two on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older rural homes like those around Stonegate can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Make sure pets are kept safely away

Advice
Why get it checked now?
On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Outbuildings and barns around Stonegate are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Anyone responsible for a site like Stonegate Church of England Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
