How a drone roof survey works in Jevington

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We do not fly in strong wind or a downpour, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we will agree another day. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. If you’re worried about ponding and splits on a high flat roof and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a small place like Jevington, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Height and safe access
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The roof’s overall size

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Helping us price your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • What made you get in touch

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.

The survey, step by step

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Jevington, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

What a drone roof survey looks like in Jevington

Jevington is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Alfriston Clergy House lies about 2.7 miles west, so building around Jevington goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Willingdon Community School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Jevington is about 3 miles west of Eastbourne, in East Sussex. Surveys in Jevington work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Jevington is one of the towns and villages in East Sussex where we work for drone roof surveys. We also survey roofs in Brighton.

Every address in BN26 is covered for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We cover properties on Jevington Road, Church Lane and Green Lane and the roads around them. If you’re just outside Jevington, we cover Ratton Village (2 miles east), Friston (2 miles south), East Dean (2 miles south), Old Town (3 miles south-east) and Hampden Park (3 miles east). Larger places within reach include Eastbourne (3 miles east), Bexhill-on-Sea (12 miles east), Seaford (5 miles west), Lewes (11 miles north-west), Hailsham (5 miles north) and St Leonards (15 miles east).

Can I check my roof myself?

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.

Common questions in Jevington

Do you cover smaller places like Jevington?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Jevington?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Jevington?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when you book.

Do you look in the loft space?

Usually, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.

How soon will I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

What we are asked to look at in Jevington

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

Take an older house close to The Parish Church of St Andrew: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What to check before booking

  • What experience they bring
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Is VAT included in the price?

What’s in a roof survey

Useful tips for Jevington property owners

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photographs and findings. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
