How a drone roof survey works in Westham
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are debris building up in hidden gutters and lifted or split lead flashings.
In a small place like Westham, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Airspace, weather and Westham roofs
Westham is within about 2 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, before anyone quotes for re-roofing.
Anyone responsible for a site like Pevensey and Westham CofE Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Westham is about 3 miles north-east of Eastbourne, in East Sussex. We visit Westham as part of our work across East Sussex, for homes and businesses alike. Westham is one of the places in East Sussex where we work for drone roof surveys. We also survey roofs in Brighton.
Drone roof surveys in BN24 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. That includes homes and businesses on High Street, Linkway and Rattle Road. If you are just outside Westham, we cover Jenkins' Green (1 mile north-west), Pevensey (1 mile east), Langney (1 mile south), Pevensey Bay (2 miles east) and Wartling (3 miles north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Eastbourne (3 miles south-west), Hastings (11 miles east), Bexhill-on-Sea (7 miles east), Seaford (10 miles west), Lewes (14 miles west) and Hailsham (4 miles north-west).

Prices for drone roof surveys in Westham
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- How big the roof is
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.
Helping us price your survey
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- The address and postcode of the property
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Westham
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.
What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

Westham questions
Is my home in Westham listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover smaller places like Westham?
Yes. Westham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but not the loft or the underside. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft space from inside.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
What happens on the day
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photos. As for time on site, it usually takes an hour or two for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a hamlet or village like Westham, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Keep pets in another room
How to book
Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or email us and give us a few details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
Related advice
Do you need a drone roof survey in Westham?
Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
The streets around a church like St Mary's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before you book anyone
- What the survey will not cover
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Whether you get a written report with photos
