Drone roof survey in Kent Street

Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we will agree another day. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and lifted or split lead flashings.

Somewhere as small as Kent Street, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

What we cannot see

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

FAQs for Kent Street

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Kent Street?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Are there drone restrictions around Kent Street?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when booking.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we will agree the details when booking.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain does not typically stop a survey. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.

DIY checks: what’s safe

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Airspace, weather and Kent Street roofs

Kent Street is within about 5 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Durhamford Manor, about 2.2 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Kent Street. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Kent Street is about 3 miles north of Hastings, in East Sussex. We survey roofs in Kent Street and the rest of East Sussex. Kent Street is one of the places in East Sussex where we work. For surveys nearby, see our Maidstone page.

If you’re just outside Kent Street, we cover Westfield (1 mile east), Telham (2 miles west), Sedlescombe (2 miles north), Whatlington (2 miles north-west) and Brede (3 miles north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Eastbourne (14 miles south-west), Hastings (3 miles south), Bexhill-on-Sea (6 miles south-west), Hailsham (13 miles west), St Leonards (4 miles south) and Polegate (14 miles south-west).

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Kent Street

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Wind damage high on the roof

Take a building like Ark Helenswood Academy: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • What they will not be able to tell you
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • What happens after the report arrives

Landlords, agents and block managers in Kent Street

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

What we do, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Somewhere as small as Kent Street, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
