Independent drone roof surveys in Firle

About our drone roof survey in Firle

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. Typical surveys look at plant growth and moss on the roof and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, on fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.

Somewhere as small as Firle, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

What affects the price in Firle

To price your survey, we look at:

  • How big the roof is
  • House, block, shop or office
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking.

Getting in touch

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The address and postcode of the property

We survey roofs on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a date that works for you, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.

DIY checks: what’s safe

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. In a place like Firle, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Why us?

  • Package prices that include VAT
  • Plain-English reports with photos
  • Drone and thermal imaging surveys available
  • An independent view of the roof

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near Firle can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Advice

For landlords and managing agents

Landlords and letting agents in Firle book surveys as well as householders. A report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.

Firle: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Firle?

Yes, Firle is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

How do I find out if my home in Firle is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.

Are you registered with the CAA?

Yes. We hold both a CAA Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We use a sub-250g drone, flown within the rules for the open category.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable.

Drone roof surveys around Firle

Firle lies within about 5 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. With Firle Place about 0.4 miles south-east, Firle sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you look after a building like Firle Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. For an older house near a landmark such as The Parish Church of St Peter, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
