New roof snagging in Snagshall: what you get
Replacing a roof costs a lot, so it’s worth having it checked before the final payment. Our new roof snagging inspection looks for faults and unfinished work on the new roof and around it. You get a written report with photos that you can pass to your roofer. It is an independent check, separate from the roofer who did the work. We survey flashings and valleys, new flat roofs and new-build homes, and people most often book us about offcuts and broken tiles left behind and damage to other parts of the building.
For a small place like Snagshall, the visit is planned like any other: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed beforehand. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them when you book, so the visit can be planned around them. Buyers and owners of new roofs get the same approach as anywhere. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- Repair costs for putting snags right
- Areas out of view from each safe vantage point
- Settling a dispute with your roofer or builder

Common questions in Snagshall
Is my home in Snagshall listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Do you cover Snagshall?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Snagshall as anywhere else.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
How soon after the work should I book a snagging inspection?
Once the roofer says the job is done, ideally before you pay in full. That gives time for any snags to be put right.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.
What if it rains on the day?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
How we price new roof snagging
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- House, block, shop or office
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Signs you need new roof snagging in Snagshall
Flashings are a common source of snags. Loose or badly fitted flashings can let water in at the first heavy rain.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Flashings not properly dressed or fixed
- Missing or blocked roof ventilation
- Offcuts and broken tiles left behind
- Broken coverings left on a new roof
The streets around a church such as The Parish Church of St James are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- When you’ll get the report
The survey, step by step
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. Around Snagshall, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- First, we note any deadlines and concerns.
- We inspect as far as safe access allows.
- We work through ridges, verges, valleys and flashings.
- We check the gutters, lower roofs and walls for debris or damage.
- You receive a report to share with your roofer.
Before we arrive
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
